ABOUT US

Troop 54 was established on December 1, 1997. We are located in Yorktown, Virginia at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church on Hampton Hwy (VA-134) across from the YMCA. We meet every Tuesday from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. There are usually 20-25 boys in attendance from 11 to 17 years of age. They are divided amongst smaller groups called patrols, which have a Boy Scout who acts as the patrol leader. The patrol leaders, usually older scouts, are selected for their scouting experience and leadership skills. During our meetings we learn important Scout skills, discuss upcoming activities, plan for outings, and work on rank advancement and merit badges.

We have our Court of Honor twice a year, which is a ceremony held to recognize individuals for their achievements in scouting. We go on weekend outings at least once a month. During the spring and summer we camp outside in tents. Every year we go to summer camp for a week, where scouts are able to earn many merit badges, experience new activities, and have fun. In the winter, we are a bit flexible due to the weather, so we will sometimes plan an indoor outing if it is extremely harsh. These outdoor adventures allow the Scouts to experience the marvels of nature and learn about life away from civilization. We enjoy going out and having fun wherever we go, and look forward to every new adventure we undertake.
